Our Story
Three months into our engagement, I traveled from Birmingham to Boston to visit my fiancé Rebecca for Thanksgiving 2020. With all of the surprises the year had already brought, she surprised me with a homemade dark chocolate bar upon my arrival. She knew that I have an affinity for high-quality dark chocolate, and her precious un-tempered bar went right to my heart. Little did we know this event would spark the pursuit of making chocolate bars with perfect taste and consistency. Months of experimentation and long-distance collaboration followed this first Thanksgiving. And boy, were some of our batches "experiments". I myself tried some crazy ingredients, made many messes, and spilled water into a batch one too many times. But Rebecca, being a more experienced cook, made the most headway in reaching our bar as you know it today. We are still improving and always will be, but we are excited to bring our customers a top-notch bar made with passion and high-quality ingredients. It is through Jesus Christ and with great joy that Rebecca and I are able to offer you Slane Chocolate. Each day of life we are given we see as an opportunity to fulfill our mission: worshiping God through sharing his Word and serving others. This mission, combined with our appreciation of the unique flavor and texture of fine dark chocolate, led to the birth of Slane Chocolate. It is our sincere hope that our bars play a role in finding the lost and encouraging the saved through the Scripture each bar proclaims through its “Ticket to Life". "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God will stand forever" (Isaiah 40:8).

Our Ingredients
We make our chocolate with high-quality organic cacao sourced from around the world. We appreciate the genuine flavor of cocoa beans more than the heaps of sugar found in much chocolate, which is why we only make bars with a minimum of 70% cacao. Depending on availability, the Slane Chocolate bar you are eating likely contains cacao sourced from Ecuador, Trinidad & Tobago, or Peru. We use the finest vanilla beans from Madagascar as well as certified fair trade organic cocoa butter. Our processing is minimal with no added emulsifiers so that you can enjoy a fresh, flavorful bar of pure dark chocolate. We have a fancy piece of equipment called a melanger (meh•lawn•jur) that grinds and aerates our chocolate for ten to twelve hours, giving your bar a smooth and creamy texture and enhancing its flavor notes. Once this process called “conching” is complete, our chocolate is brought down to temp, portioned into molds, and wrapped all by hand. There is no such thing as cutting corners when it comes to great chocolate. It is truly a labor of love, and we sure do love our product. We hope you enjoy it just as much as we do!
